  Abstract/
Summary
In design and construction of large scale industrial installations, PLM systems are commonly applied alongside GIS tools. This need arises from strong requirements for managing machine engineering processes as well as geographic distribution of extended facilities. As both of these aspects are subject to the same planning process, efforts in PLM and GIS domains need to be coordinated. The process can thus benefit from integration of supporting systems. The following paper investigates multi-tier integration of PLM and GIS at the data model, workflow and user interface level. An integrated conceptual model based on reference PLM and GIS data models is presented and demonstrated basing on a prototype environment for supporting the European XFEL particle accelerator construction project at DESY, Hamburg.
