  Abstract/
Summary
The aim of the reverse engineering (RE) process is to use middle of life (MOL) physical product to generate data to be used in the beginning of life (BOL) of a new product lifecycle. It requires a lot of manipulations to transform a point cloud in a ‘frozen geometry’. Nevertheless, in order to support engineering changes in a new design process, the product should be represented with a parametric geometry. A knowledge-based approach is proposed to provide the product’s parametric geometry. Using this approach, assumptions are made on the MOL’s product and on the BOL’s one. It leads to manage at least two geometries that are most of the time quite different due to the different design intents and manufacturing means. The paper proposes a data model to manage the multi-CAD models of the knowledge-based RE process as an extension of the core product model (CPM) for RE.
