Abstract/ Summary |
The use of ontologies is becoming more and more popular in asset and product lifecycle management. Still, the use is limited in academia and applications are of a small scale. In this work we are applying an ontology information model developed in the framework of the Interreg Project ‘Semantic Maintenance and Life Cycle’ (‘SMAC’) on a lathe machine. The use of the ontology is combined with description logics (DLs) which allow to reason on classes and instances. The information system is executable, dynamic and flexible. The use of DLs is tested and validated through a case study in asset lifecycle management (ALM) focusing in the middle of life (MOL) of the lathe machine. This work aims at providing both a wider aspect of the benefits of applying such models in a complex environment of ALM and an initiative for implementing ontology models in industrial environment. |
