  Abstract/
Summary
An important factor for improving the efficiency of PLM models is the implementation of information science new tools and technologies. In this work, an ontology model of a Product Data and Knowledge Management Semantic Object Model for PLM has been used, with the aim of implementing ontology advantages and features into the model to demonstrate the main capabilities the model has. The initial model has been altered in order to facilitate new functionalities while preserving all previous capabilities. Semantic Web Rule Language (SWRL) and Jess rule engine have also been used to extract knowledge. The development and extension of ontology models using ontologies and semantics, supports both interoperability between software platforms and data integration. Moreover, expressivity has increased, allowing auto-categorisation of the input data and the three-level re-classification showed in this work, and being able to be extended to even higher level.
