  Abstract/
Summary
This paper introduces an object oriented approach for linking item based product structures directly accessed from Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems with Virtual Reality (VR) scene graphs. Thereby we transport semantic product information comprising of structural and attributive data from the PLM system to a VR environment in order to enrich the immersive visualization in VR. The approach described here is driven by the LESC (Lifecycle Engineering Solution Center) Environment, which is currently established at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. LESC provides a sophisticated environment for conducting research in the field of Virtual Engineering and PLM. The solution is meant to be a framework for linking the state of the art PLM systems with high-performance VR environments in order to provide a foundation for future research activities concerned with process, product and system integration, building on this approach.
