  Abstract/
Summary
This paper presents a framework for realization of technologymediated collaboration for the success of electronics product development in virtual teams. Since there exist high task interdependencies within a product development team, proper information support regarding members' activities and shared objects is indispensable with timely manner. In order to satisfy such collaboration needs, both asynchronous and synchronous collaboration technologies (CT) have been incorporated with PLM Database in the framework to enhance communication, coordination, and cooperation among members of project team. A case study is provided to illustrate that the framework helps resolution of task interdependencies between industrial designers and mechanical engineers, which enables the team to reduce project lead time as well as the number of hard mock-ups for validating the product.
