Summary |
This paper investigates the socio-economic effects of Darfur conflict. It begins with discussing Sudan and Darfur economic performance. It compares Darfur performance with other regions in Sudan. By employing regression analysis and descriptive statistics, this paper has shown that Darfur export shocks are region specific rather than country specific. This paper discusses the causes of production variability in Darfur and investigates the welfare cost of the conflict and what happened to the poor. This paper has analysed income shocks, consumption smoothing and poverty incidence in Darfur. This paper calls for a better integration of Darfur region with other parts of the country, peace as indispensable public good for poverty reduction, redistribution and increasing socio-economic transfers to Darfur region. |
