  Abstract/
Summary
This document compiles and presents the results from several years of research within Dr. Sorli's Engineering Design Research Group in the lines of Product Development in the extended enterprise including some research projects within the frame of the European Commission Framework Programmes. The main business aim is to produce a leap forward in industrial design performance in manufacturing Companies. The paper will present a model describing a new paradigm for the development process of new products and their manufacturing processes combining the concepts of Innovation, Knowledge Management and integrating tools and techniques from Total Quality Management (TQM), Concurrent Engineering (CE) and Information Technologies (IT) within a real working framework shifting towards the required cultural changes. The model is partially based on the Ph.D.'s thesis developed by Dr. Sorli.
