Summary
A leading supplier of large diesel engines for ship propulsion systems, stationary power supply and rail traction, MAN Diesel A/S felt the need for effective management of data and empowerment of their vision for ''Lifetime Management of Engines''. Prior to PLM implementation, the design and service data of products were being managed by several home grown mainframe-based data management systems. There was a need for a collaborative environment which would improve design re-usability, make spare part identification easier and enable better interaction with engine manufacturers distributed globally. In addition, encapsulation of different rules, processes and standards followed by the various business groups in the organization was to be achieved. This paper would shed light on the implementation of the integrated and collaborative PLM environment at MAN Diesel, Denmark. Attention would also be given to the migration of data from legacy systems to the new environment and interfacing with the ERP system.
