  Abstract/
Summary
With the shortcomings of the existing Internet Protocol (IP) becoming increasingly evident a new protocol known as IP version 6 (IPv6) has been defined. Today IPv6 represents the main protocol for the next generation networks, especially for fourth generation (4G) and surveillance networks. Starting from the point of the role of the wireless multimedia content delivery and its environment, this work deals with the coexistence of the previous Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and IPv6. The second part of the work treats the problem of terminal mobility as well as Quality of Service (QoS) during handover. Finally, IP Security (IPSec) in heterogeneous networks is analyzed. A proposal concerning the best solution for the IPv6 transfer concludes this work.
