Abstract: During the past decades, with increasing competition within the industry, most manufacturing companies have been paying close attention to improving flexibility and responsiveness in order to meet customer needs. One of the major techniques used for improving the manufacturing competitiveness is the cellular manufacturing system (CMS) (Ahi et al., 2009). The CMS is a type of manufacturing system that tries to combine the flexibility of job shop and the productivity of flow shop. Therefore, concentrating on the designing of CMS is crucial and. this research is focused on proposing the linear mathematical model for a dynamic cellular manufacturing system (DCMS) in order to group the machines in the cell and design the machine layout, which are two important elements in DCMS. Then, GAMS software was applied to solve and optimise the proposed mathematical model.
