Preparation and characterisation of visible-light-driven BaCo0.5Y0.5O3 photocatalyst
by R.M. Mohamed, K. Mori, T. Ohmichi, H. Yamashita
International Journal of Nanomanufacturing (IJNM), Vol. 4, No. 1/2/3/4, 2009
Abstract: In this work, the synthesis of BaCo0.5Y0.5O3 visible-light-driven photocatalyst was studied via the sol-gel method. When the calcinations temperature was 1000°C, a pure perovskite phase was obtained. The particle size and crystallinity of BaCo0.5Y0.5O3 powders markedly increased with a rise in the calcination temperature. The band gap of BaCo0.5Y0.5O3 calculated using the UV-visible spectra was found to be less than that of titania. BaCo0.5Y0.5O3 was shown to posses photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. The activity of BaCo0.5Y0.5O3 depended strongly on the synthesis temperature.
