E-business in the developing world: an empirical study of payment methods and their implications
by Zahid Hussain, James Wallace, Rana Tassabehji, Osman Khan
International Journal of Electronic Business (IJEB), Vol. 5, No. 3, 2007
Abstract: The recent trend of outsourcing manufacturing and services from the developed economies is creating buoyant economies in the developing world. With advances in technological infrastructure, these new markets are being transformed by e-business. In this paper, we discuss issues regarding methods of payment for internet purchases in China, India and Pakistan. The relationship between factors that may influence the establishment and growth of e-business within these economies are investigated empirically. A logit model of payment method preference is subsequently developed from these analyses. Finally, a general discussion regarding obstacles, limitations and ways forward for e-business in these economies is provided.
