Abstract: Electronic procurement by public entities promises to enhance efficiency and transparency in utilisation of funds. While the private sector has been using these techniques for a number of years, many governments are now beginning to grant legal validity to electronic contracts and also to implement e-procurement initiatives themselves. This paper analyses the status of electronic government procurement in India from a legal perspective, and suggests a forward course of action in this regard incorporating the changes required in the existing procurement laws and systems.
