Secure hybrid routing with micro/macro-mobility handoff mechanisms for urban wireless mesh networks
by Ramanarayana Kandikattu, Lillykutty Jacob
International Journal of Security and Networks (IJSN), Vol. 3, No. 4, 2008
Abstract: Secure and pervasive internet access is the goal of present research in wireless networks realm. Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is expected to be the most widely used network in the near future to make the anywhere-anytime internet access into reality. Though past research on WMN gives solutions on routing and mobility management separately, a complete solution is still lacking. This paper proposes a novel framework for secure, efficient and fast handoff that meets the low handoff latency requirements along with a mechanism to maintain correct billing. This framework encompasses: key management; a secure intra-domain mesh routing protocol; secure inter-agent mesh routing protocol; a micro-mobility handoff mechanism; a macro-mobility handoff mechanism with a secure billing system. Simulation studies using OPNET 14.0 and the performance analysis show that the proposed framework meets the low handoff latency requirements without compromising security.
