With the rise of mobile internet and the proliferation of smart electronic devices, there is a fast -growing interest in intelligent and green embedded systems. On the one hand, it is very hard to make breakthroughs in battery technology within a short time and so power-saving technology has been a hot topic in embedded computing systems. On the other hand, embedded computing devices, such as smart phones and wearable devices, are becoming more powerful and intelligent with the support of big data systems in the cloud. We have seen that embedded computing, power-saving technologies and big data systems are merging together in the era of mobile internet to revolutionise our lives, posing new research challenges.

This special issue will provide an opportunity for academic and industry professionals to discuss the latest issues and progress in intelligent and green embedded systems. In addition, we expect this special issue will be a trigger for further related research and technology improvements in this important subject.

Subject Coverage
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • High performance embedded system architectures
  • Reliability and resiliency in embedded computing
  • The application of machine intelligence in embedded systems
  • Energy- and cost-efficient embedded system architectures
  • The green evolution of low-power embedded software
  • Energy efficiency in big data systems
  • Emerging hardware technologies in big data systems
  • Hardware and software co-design for big data
  • Techniques, processes, and methods for collecting, filtering, fusing, storing and visualising big data
