Abstract: After analysing the problems observed in the sensor technology course at Weifang University, some methods to improve students' learning initiatives are proposed based on training students' comprehensive engineering abilities. These methods include updating the teaching content, adjusting the theory and experimental teaching methods, and modifying the evaluation rules. Reforms include reducing theoretical contents, adding the practicability circuits and new sensor contents; using a combination of methods in classroom teaching based on the small-projects teaching method, modular teaching method, and on-site teaching method; adding the comprehensive experiment and design experiment in the practical teaching, which develops design and operating capabilities independently; transforming the evaluation system from traditional theoretical achievement to a synthesis of practical achievement, daily achievement, and theoretical achievement, causing students to shift from passive to active learning. These curriculum reforms have greatly stimulated students' interest in learning and achieved good teaching results.
