Abstract: In this paper, we study the microwave effect on the physical and mechanical properties of coal samples. Firstly, the analysis of material composition change of coal samples was done. Then, the micro characteristics of coal samples were analysed. Finally, the mechanical and AE properties were tested under uniaxial compression and the causes of coal samples influenced by microwave are studied based on FTIR. The results show that, with the increase of microwave time, the contents of industrial composition in the coal samples greatly change. The content of O2 gradually reduces, while the contents of CO, CO2 and other gases gradually increase. The porosity of coal samples slowly decreases and then increases. The surface physical characteristics of small coal samples are more and more obvious. The compressive strength and the maximum AE pulsing counts of coal samples gradually decrease. The causes of coal samples influenced by microwave are explained based on FTIR. [Received: July 6, 2017; Accepted: December 13, 2017]
