Abstract: Blasting, which is one of the most significant sources of pollution, is necessary for surface preparation in shipbuilding industry. In this study, dry-ice blasting is investigated by means of impact effectiveness of the abrasive material to replace the traditional methods with less polluting, environmentally safe and less human health affecting alternative process. Numerical analyses are presented denoting the blasting efficiency and damage behaviour by particle velocity according to paint thickness. A new point of view on determining the blasting velocity resulting in decreasing the amount of waste and time is investigated and presented to perform a commercially suitable method.

Keywords: blasting process; dry-ice blasting; waste materials; paint removal; impact damage.
