Abstract: Disagreements and conflicts are normal, even if they trigger hurtful responses as often occurs in the Middle East. Methods of conflict resolution such as mediation, arbitration and litigation can be of value in settling disputes as well as the techniques of indigenous conflict resolution that embrace local traditions. By understanding these options, negotiators and managers of businesses and other organisations (including NGOs) will have a wider range of tools to use when seeking to reduce tensions and when struggling to reach workable understandings in the Middle East and elsewhere.
