Abstract: India as a country can benefit greatly from the deployment of teleradiology services, due to a critical shortage of radiologists, however at the same time various challenges some of which are unique to India prevent the effective deployment of such services. This article is written based on our organisation's cumulative experience of over twelve years delivering teleradiology services in India and overseas, and as one of the first and oldest organisations to deliver such services in India, our experiences are representative of the collective experiences of all such providers. It discusses both the utilisation patterns, benefits and challenges of teleradiology in the Indian milieu, using our own experiences as a case study. The analysis is in the form of review of date of our own organisation's experience in delivering teleradiology services within India, in terms of reach/access, utilisation and trends in this challenging geography, as well as a literature review of published material.
