Abstract: In the contemporary economy, the emphasis is increasingly on the development of environment-friendly economy. In these circumstances, the sustainable development of any economy involves increasing environmental interest in any domain. The greater the importance of promoting green jobs that is increasingly supported by employment policies and strategies at national and European level. In a green economy, development of green jobs becomes the basis of a sustainable economic development. Green jobs are central to sustainable development and respond to the global challenges of environmental protection, economic development and social inclusion. This paper captures the role of the green jobs to ensure sustainable economic development and highlights Romanian's position in this regard. This research starts at the conceptual analysis of the terms of sustainable development, green economy and green jobs, being caught the links between these concepts. This paper also presents the green jobs and some indicators of sustainability in Romania and EU, based on specialised studies and reports.
