Abstract: A multi-obective optimisation framework has been developed in order to search for energy systems in urban areas that are more appropriate in aspects such as costs, energy conservation and environmental impacts. The objectives taken into account are the cost, primary energy consumption, and CO2 emission of the specific area to be studied. The evaluation of these objectives is based on the simulation of the daily operation of the assumed energy system. The city to be examined is expressed by the floor area of various kinds of buildings, e.g. office buildings, hotels, hospitals, apartment and detached houses, etc. Energy systems such as co-generation, electric turbo refrigerator system with heat accumulation devices and solar energy based utilisation system are taken into account. A number of cases which can be considered as Pareto optimal to the original optimisation problem have been identified for a hypothetical city and these results will be described.
