Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to present a worldwide perspective on the future of nuclear power, the utilization of the breeder, and some of the issues on a worldwide basis. It must be recognized that the situation in the European Union, while influenced by the overall situation, is different, and this is particularly true of France which is in a unique and enviable situation with most of its electric power coming from nuclear power and which has demonstrated large-scale breeder technology.
