Abstract: The paper aims to model a series hybrid bus and its parameters to size the hybrid vehicle powertrain and to examine the impact of hybridising a city bus with a diesel internal combustion engine on fuel consumption and air pollution. In this study, the series hybridising procedure is fulfilled on O457 city bus. First, the intended vehicle is modelled and simulated using ADVISOR software package in various driving cycles. A model of a diesel bus is simulated to validate the model, and the two models are compared with each other. Results of the study reveal that the hybridising procedure done on the above-mentioned bus has an acceptable performance, and that it can decrease fuel consumption by around 35%.
