Abstract: From the office to the factory, from the department store to the delivery truck, telecommunications systems are boosting not only efficiency, speed, and quality, but are creating increasingly direct links between companies and customers. In Japan, the liberalisation of the telecommunications industry and the development and expansion of information and communication systems is leading to a fundamental restructuring of the way companies do business.
