Abstract: This research aims at developing several bilingual computer programs for the Office of the Vice-president for Post-graduate and Academic research and for the Office of Scientific Research at the King Abdulaziz University. These programs utilise an advanced version of the Novell network and the latest version of Dataflex database software. Dataflex was selected for its powerful multi-on-line search and graphic capabilities that provide on-line statistics based on the stored records. The programming tasks are divided into two major parts as follows: (1) Automation of the technical and administrative operations at the vice-president|s office. These operations include in-coming (warid) and out-going (sadir) correspondence, technical follow-up of conference activities, file archives and keeping track of appointments; (2) Automation of the various activites of the Office of Scientific Research. Programs were developed to contribute to organising and facilitating the stages of receiving the annual research proposals, appointing the evaluators of the proposals, and the technical and financial follow-up activities of research. In addition, a comprehensive database has been built that contains full information about researchers and evaluators in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
