Abstract: The increasing requirements in connection with the vehicle structure highlight the better utilisation of material, energy saving and reliability. The theoretical calculation of light structure construction has recently been significantly developed but experimental work is nevertheless of great importance. Through our research laboratory, we joined in the development work of the IKARUS Body and Vehicle Factory. The aim is to develop modern vehicle structures. In parallel with finite element calculations, we examined the deformation and stress fields under different loads in the vicinity of the junction points of the running gears by optical active coating and reflection polariscope. Furthermore, by fatigue tests using models in accordance with the true frame. The tests make it possible to qualify the present construction and to take the course of the development.
