Title: Suspension derivatives in vehicle modelling and simulation

Abstract: In the available vehicle models and simulations, the suspension units are assumed to be inertially linked to the vehicle body. This increased the order of dynamics of the vehicle systems and reduced the stability of numerical computation. An improvement of the model and simulation was obtained by substituting the suspension dynamic model by a kinematic model. This permits a more realistic description of the coupling between the vehicle body and the suspension units. The developed model and simulation are intended to be added to the Suspension Parameter Measuring Device computer library in order to predict vehicle ride and handling behaviour, once the SPMD measured all the required data, including the suspension derivatives, used by the simulation. Handling results for a braking manoeuvre are compared to those obtained by classical simulations.
