Title: Analysis of three-dimensional separated flow on bluff bodies

Abstract: In recent years, numerical methods have been developed to predict the turbulent three-dimensional separated flow around bluff bodies moving close to the ground. Nevertheless, the development and application of these numerical techniques are limited to very simple shapes and are, anyway, linked to a better understanding of the physics of complex vortical flows. This problem is of most concern when the approach is inviscid because of the necessity to prescribe first the location of separation and then a numerical vortex sheet model in the vicinity of the body. The aim of this paper is to investigate the wake of a simple but realistic body shape, in order to collect experimental data and then clarify some theoretical problems posed by inviscid numerical approaches.
