Abstract: This paper discusses the problems of designing an effective structure (in the sense of minimum energy consumption) for an electric vehicle with an electrochemical source of energy. The application of computer simulation in the design process needs a properly defined mathematical model of the vehicle. In general, scientific descriptions are available of the problems of power engineering, the electronics of driving systems and the theory of vehicle motion. But there is a shortage of information concerning the influence of limited power and energy on traction and other properties of the vehicle. Insufficient development of the mathematical description for such analyses is one of the main reasons for this situation. Authors of study papers pay much attention to the problems, though information is incomplete and dispersed. Properly defined mathematical models of all the important elements of the driving system allow rapid and cheap design of their power and traction properties, without the need to construct an expensive prototype.
