Abstract: Forces transmitted to a vehicle suspension due to encountering a bump are measured during laboratory and track tests. The longitudinal (rearwards acting) loads are shown to be of significant magnitude when compared with the vertical components of the transient response. The implications of this on suspension design are discussed.
