Accuracy in estimating future market trends is essential. This paper describes the demand and supply related factors which influence the planning process and discusses the prospects of a long term future for the motor car. It goes on to propose a simple analytical model, based on supply and demand conditions, which can be used as a framework for future vehicle planning. It emphasises the vital need for creative engineering and design to the future success of any manufacturer.
