Title: Towards pluralism in a public economics course in India

Abstract: This paper describes moves towards pluralism in a public economics course in India. The course is divided into three parts for pedagogical reasons: institutional public economics, standard public economics and empirical public economics. Incorporating institutional scholarship provides a different way of looking at issues of public policy. In the section on empirical public economics diverse approaches are again encouraged. Key themes that emerge from the different readings used in the course are discussed.
