Abstract: Cooperative communication can combat multipath fading by exploiting multiple antennas from single-antenna nodes to form the virtual antenna arrays. Virtual Multi-Input Multi-Output (VMIMO) is one instance of cooperative communication that has the potential to largely expand transmission range and reduce energy consumption. This paper proposes a Cooperative Virtual MIMO Routing (CVMIMOR) protocol, which dynamically establishes clusters hop by hop by transmitting the well designed Route Request (RREQ) control packets and other control packets, and the VMIMO technique is used to transmit data between clusters. The simulation results show that compared to other existing routing protocols, our CVMIMOR can achieve higher route discovery success ratio and less energy consumption.
