Abstract: Mobile healthcare computing devices (MHCDs) are rapidly becoming an integral part of healthcare information systems. Deployment of these devices is becoming an important IT strategy designed to assist in improving quality of care, enhancing patient services, increasing productivity, lowerong costs, improving cash flow, as well as facilitating other critical delivery processes. This paper explores how MHCDs are changing the face of medical community by examining specific mobile applications. Also, several database management issues are discussed as well as specifically addressing several mobile deployment implementation issues. Finally, the future use of MHCDs is explored along with several concluding comments, which summarise salient issues raised in the paper.
