Abstract: In the following paper, some problems of safety for catalytic boilers with fixed and fluidised beds are discussed. The reason is to protect the boiler from gas and fuel-air mixture explosion. For it the conditions excluding the transition from catalytic combustion to flame must be observed, and they are presented in the article for different combustible gases. A special attention has been paid to the velocity of open flame front propagation. A corresponding theoretical model is given for the different flow regimes.

Keywords: catalytic boilers; fixed bed; fluidised bed; gas and fuel-air mixture explosion; transition from catalytic combustion; flame combustion; fuels; open flame front propagation; flow regime; combustible gas; safety; gas-fired boiler.
