Compensation influences key outcomes like job satisfaction, attraction, retention, performance, skill acquisition, cooperation, motivation and turnover intent of employees. An effective and just compensation policy can help an organisation achieve and sustain a competitive advantage. Employees, on receiving rewards and recognition from their organisation, feel obliged to respond with higher levels of commitment. In compensation studies, process of social comparison with relevant others are a major determinant of job satisfaction.
