Abstract: This paper presents a method for the optimisation of the design parameters for a steering axle on a wheeled agricultural tractor using the criterion of minimal tyre wear on the front wheels. The method is based on two conditions for minimal tyre wear derived in a previous publication. The method has proven its effectiveness during the optimisation of the design parameters of the steering axle of an agricultural tractor MTZ-80. It can be used successfully in the practice for design and improvement of rear-axle driven wheeled vehicles with solid-axle suspensions.

Keywords: king-pin angles; steering linkage geometry; tyre wear; wheel angles; agricultural tractors; heavy vehicles.
