Abstract: For the last five years, BMW AG has tested different methods for optimisation in the field of FEM crash simulation. Various methods have been identified and used efficiently to solve a variety of different optimisation problems. The requirements for these methods have been detected and are listed herein. Although considerable improvements have been realised in the described projects and examples to follow, additional research is needed before optimisation methods for FEM crash simulation can be used as a productive standard tool.
