Abstract: The Government of Egypt implemented El Salam Canal project to reuse drainage water, to create new communities along the Canal and to re-chart Egypt's population map. The objectives of the present study are to evaluate the quantity of the drainage water which feed El-Salam Canal, and the quality of water discharge through the course of El Salam Canal. This paper assesses water quality of El Salam Canal for irrigation use and employs newly developed Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment water quality index (CCME WQI) which provides a convenient mean of summarising complex water quality data. The index produces a number between 0 (worst) to 100 (best) to reflect the water quality. According to CCME WQI water quality of El Salam Canal reaches ranked between good to fair based on their water quality.
