Title: Impact of HRM practices on HR outcomes: a comparative study between two Indian public and private sector oil companies

Abstract: This paper presents a comparative study with respect to human resource management (HRM) practices and attitudinal outcomes in two large scale Indian organisations, one in the public sector and the other in private. A diagnostic survey was conducted in both organisations and the results indicate different determinants of employee satisfaction, affective commitment and turnover intent. In spite of low satisfaction with HRM practices, employees in public sector demonstrate higher level of affective commitment than the private sector. Despite the common perception, the study indicates that job security has no significant impact on attitudinal outcomes in both sectors.
