Abstract: The present work proposes a standardised and flexible model of the semantics required to enunciate the structures and activities in intelligent buildings using a descriptive language formalised in a DTD of XML. The use of XML documents to model buildings allow the hierarchy of the existing building containers to be explicitly shown, nsure the portability of the model between various systems and achieve a natural mapping of the building components as regards the software in charge of managing them. This new representation model eliminates the presence of database driven management systems, thus giving rise to more simple and compact developments, as well as solving numerous configuration and development problems. Moreover, the availability of tools for transforming XML documents based on XSL enhance the model|s portability between various systems through simply applying an XSLT template.

Keywords: intelligent buildings; control; monitoring; modelling.
