Abstract: Weekend air quality is analysed with the aid of Fourier analysis, in order to reveal time-series structures for Athens, Greece. For this reason, an appropriate analysis of a 10 year record from 1990–1999 of air quality data from the monitoring network in Athens is carried out for two specific monitoring sites. The aim of the paper is to investigate the temporal pattern of observations in order to reveal relations and trends. Thus, it is expected that the estimation of environmental consequences related to various incentives aimed at the reduction of air emissions will be enriched. The aim of the current work is also to demonstrate that the analysis of weekend air quality monitoring data records is an appropriate method for estimating the temporal variation of air pollution in urban agglomerations, based on appropriate approximations.
