Abstract: Under severe heat cycle conditions the exhaust manifold of an engine can have problems of cracks and extensive plastic deformation. In this paper, the finite element method is applied to predict transient temperature distribution and thermal stress and deformation in both elastic and plastic ranges. The predicted results showed good agreement with the measured ones.
