Abstract: Biotechnology is entering a phase in which production can be as crucial to a firm|s success as its laboratory research breakthroughs, financial strength, ability to win US FDA approval, and marketing prowess. Biomanufacturing processes follow a progression of molecular isolation and manipulation, inoculation into a suitable growth medium, gradual scale-up, recovery, and purification. This paper outlines some of the unique and crucial aspects in the production of biotech products and the place of various manufacturing strategies in the face of the scientific, technological and market uncertainties.

Keywords: biomanufacturing; biotechnology; biotech products; manufacturing strategy.
