Abstract: The paper contains experimental results regarding the methods used for obtaining coating layers with anticorrosive properties at high temperatures and wear resistance, on the Armco iron and steels by titanium diffusion and simultaneous aluminium and titanium diffusion. One of the methods is metallisation with diffusion, the procedure of packing in the powders. The mixture of powder contains: ferro-titanium alloy, Al2O3 (as inert material, added up to 30% wt.) and NH4Cl (active component, added up to 3% wt.). The temperature of the process ranges from 900°C to 1100°C, and the period of time has been from 5 to 24 hours. The structure of the diffusion layers has been studied by optical microscopy, microhardness determinations, electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and corrosive tests. The interdiffusion coefficients in the Fe-Ti system have been obtained at 1100°C. Another method for obtaining coating layers is the powder plasma technique. The titanium coating layers obtained by this method on austenitic heat-resisting steel have been compared with the layers obtained by the powder packing method.
