Abstract: Software testing is the most common practice for assuring software quality. A method of supporting test data generation using information from different kinds of UML diagrams is presented in the paper. This method is based on the UML(VR) concept which is the extension of the standard UML by vertical relations which formally define relations between elements from different kinds of diagrams. Using these vertical relations, we are able to employ UML as a basis for test data generation in different kinds of tests (module-based, requirement-based, etc.). Such an approach gives us a unique possibility to choose the testing method depending on the actual needs.

Keywords: graph transformations; unified modelling language; UML; use cases; timing diagrams; software maintenance; software model consistency; software testing; software quality assurance; vertical relations.
