Abstract: Nowadays, the role of business creation in growth, development, employment and innovation is generally accepted. Based on these economic and social influences, this special issue aims to contribute to the understanding of the determinants of entrepreneurial activity. This entrepreneurial process is undertaken by individuals or entrepreneurial teams that have their own human and social capital, cognitive properties and particular circumstances but are also immersed in a specific context with social, cultural, political and economic characteristics. This paper offers a synthesis of the study of the determinants of entrepreneurship and proposes a framework for an integrated study that assumes the complexity of the different possible approaches to the phenomenon of firm creation, providing an outline of the relationship of different environmental factors. Further, it provides an overview of the papers collected in this special issue, which focus on different areas of the previous proposed framework by analysing different manifestations of entrepreneurship and the factors that influence it.

Keywords: entrepreneurship determinants; entrepreneurial environment; entrepreneurial integrated framework; firm creation; new ventures.
