Abstract: The first part of this paper reviews some of the general motivations for Europe having initiated in 1988 its European Forum for Continuing Engineering Education. The last part is dedicated to the 1992 Second European Forum: International Cooperation Between Industry and Academia, which provided an overview of the rapidly changing European continuing engineering education scene. A summary is given of some of the most important ideas which came out of the Panels considering |Environment and related ethical issues| and |Human resources development strategies| as well as the Round Tables on |Improving educational productivity| and |European flexible and distance learning|.
